Application areas: Leather products, such as seats, furniture and clothing
Recommended use: Pour the contents of Leather Cleaner mild (or strong for heavy soiling) into the empty foamer bottle and apply the foam to a sponge – do not apply directly to the leather. Clean the leather from seam to seam with the foam; the leather cleaning brush makes it easier to remove heavy soiling deep within the grain. Lightly dampen the included cloth and remove dirt and cleaning residue, then let the leather dry completely. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary.
Carefully smooth out rough areas with the sanding pad. Apply a few drops for Degreaser to the enclosed cloth and apply evenly, allowing to flash off well. To prepare and bond beads and cracks, apply Leather Glue sparingly and thinly to cracks. Spread in small beads or hard-to-reach areas with the brushes provided, before allowing the glue to dry briefly. Join cracks "butt-to-butt", or (if possible), glue with fabric and light pressure.
With gluing, larger tears require backing with fabric; this is the only way to stabilise and permanently repair the damaged area. Overlap the fabric and cut to size, then mark the centre of the fabric with a highlighter or sticker to ensure even positioning and fix with a pin. Smooth the edges under the leather, then glue and allow to dry.
To fill, apply Fluid Leather evenly to the damaged area, smoothing the compound with a spatula before allowing to dry at room temperature for 1 - 2 hours, depending on the thickness of the layer. Repeat the process until the area is evenly filled.
For smoothing, open the GLD pen and press the felt tip inwards several times until moistened before dabbing off excess, if necessary. Apply a little pressure over the repaired area and allow to dry inbetween. Replace or turn tip if colour changes or soiling occurs. Always work carefully and with as little GLD as possible to prevent the repair area from running or smudging.
Before care, the leather must be dried for at least 24 hours, clean and free of residues. Apply a few drops of Leather Care to the included cloth, applying to the leather thinly and evenly from seam to seam. Do not polish – simply leave to dry. One application is usually sufficient; only repeat the process for extremely dry or highly absorbent leather. For heavily used leather surfaces (e.g. on heaters, sunlight, frequent use), reapply every 3 months. For leather surfaces subject to normal wear, every 6 - 12 months is sufficient.
For older and hardened leather surfaces, apply a little Elephant Leather Preserver to a cloth and then to leather evenly without using pressure and leave on overnight. Polish thoroughly the next day to restore the natural grip. Alternatively, if no re-greasing is necessary, process directly to the sealing step below.
The leather must be dry, clean and free of residue for at least 12 hours before sealing. Rub a few drops of soft leather Shield into the provided cloth, applying thinly and evenly to the leather from seam to seam. Do not polish – simply leave to dry. One application is usually sufficient; only repeat the process for extremely sensitive or highly absorbent leather.
The drying process cannot be accelerated using a hairdryer. It is normal for the product to seep out during drying and this does not affect the final result. Liquid leather cannot be sanded. Uneven areas can be smoothed with the GLD pen.
Warnings: Please test all products on a concealed area first to rule out any undesirable changes to the leather. Always wear protective gloves for all applications.
