Winter Essentials for Every Detailer
We spoke to our Master Detailers and got the low down on 10 detailing products you can't get through the winter without.
ProtectorWax is a must-have for winter cleaning. Cannot finish a car without it! Perfect for maintaining vehicles and bringing them up to a great gloss just by spending 20 extra seconds!
Protects paintwork and keeps it clean making vehicles easier to wash next time round by repelling water, dirt, and other contaminants. Allows the vehicle to "dry itself" so towels don't get as wet during drying.
G1 uses a chemical bond which gives it unrivalled durability plus exceptionally low smear characteristics make it ideal for windscreens. Lasts for up to two years, water rolls off screens even at low speeds. Keeps windshields cleaner for longer and makes them quick and easy to spruce up when they do need a clean.
Big thing this time of year is wheels. Normally in winter it’s not brake dust that's the issue, it’s dirt. It's worth using prewash first before using a good quality wheel cleaner.
Touchless cleaners like CARPRO Wheel X, Malco Fast Shot, and Koch-Chemie Magic Wheel Cleaner are great to cut back on time when it's cold outside. Simply spray on, leave to dwell, and blast off.
Koch-Chemie Gla is a better glass cleaner for winter as it’s alcohol based and won't fog as much as other glass cleaners. We only sell Gla in 10kg or 20kg drums which makes them perfect for trade accounts as 10 litres will make 50 litres of glass cleaner. Might seem like a commitment but it is very cheap!
Really quick and effective way of giving your car some protection during maintenance washes, especially in winter when vehicles are getting a hard time due to the weather & salt off the roads.
Do it now and you won't need it again until end of April - ready for a good spring clean! Simply spray on a wet vehicle after rinsing shampoo, panel by panel, and rinse. Helps with drying, adds protection, and helps protect the ceramic coatings as well.
6. Koch-Chemie Vb Vorreiniger B
You’ve got to use Vb - it is cleaning on a different level! Bonkers. Great pre wash for traffic film for this time of year. The cleaning power is insane and better than anything we've used before. Plus, it's cheap.
A 5kg (5 Litre) drum is £32.14. 150ml of product in 1,350ml of water (to fill a 1.5L pump sprayer) makes it 96p per 1.5 litre of diluted pre-wash. That 1.5 litre is going to last ages too! Easily three or four cars.
7. Koch-Chemie Ces Ceramic Effect Shampoo and CARPRO Hydro2 Foam
Clean and protect at the same time and save time during the colder winter months. With the weather being so bad, we would definitely recommend washing first with a standard shampoo and then using these as a topper.
Watch rain bead and roll off your vehicle as if it's been ceramic coated!
8. Soft 99 Glaco Mirror Coat Zero
Soft 99 Glaco Mirror Coat Zero is an ultra hydrophobic glass coating specifically designed for wing mirrors to help with visibility in bad weather. Water comes off of coated surfaces immediately on contact, improving vision and safety.
Ideal for use on ADAS cameras to keep them clean during winter months.
9. Detail Guardz Dirt Lock Scrub Wall Attachment
Get 180 degrees of dirt trapping coverage - essential when dealing with the heavy contaminations of grime, road salt, grit, and mud in the winter months. Protect your vehicle as much as you can during the wash process to avoid scratches from dirt particles.
The Detail Guardz Dirt Lock Scrub Wall Attachment attaches to your Dirt Lock bucket filter to catch any grit and keep it caught! Rub your mitt along any of the walls and it’s safe as houses for any surface.
10. Snow Foam Lance
Might seem like a no-brainer but if you're cleaning cars in winter, you're probably going to want to do it the quickest way possible! The best way to produce a thick, foamy covering that can be sprayed onto your vehicle for easy dirt lift off.
You can use for pre-wash, snow foam, shampoo, and even easy spray waxes / coatings like Pw and Polar Seal.
